Star Visitor Brings Good News to San Siro as Inter’s Rising Talent Sees 500% Value Surge in One Year
On a night when Julian Nagelsmann, head coach of the German national team, arrived at San Siro to evaluate Arsenal's star Kai Havertz, his attention was quickly drawn to a different standout—Yann Bisseck. The young Inter Milan defender, who was initially overshadowed by his more famous counterparts, delivered a performance that lit up the field, catching the eyes of fans and pundits alike. In Germany, sports media outlets quickly spread word of Bisseck’s rising status, with many predicting that he’ll soon earn a coveted spot in the German national team.

Bisseck's Impressive Journey: From Bundesliga Bids to Inter Milan
Despite being on Germany’s radar for some time, Bisseck was notably absent from the November squad list. This temporary exclusion has not dampened expectations, though, as his remarkable progression suggests a future call-up is inevitable. German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung reported that Bisseck’s potential inclusion in the national team has been a topic of debate since September 2023. That summer, as captain of the German U21 team in the European Championship, he received an invitation to represent Cameroon. Given his dual nationality, several German pundits advised national selectors to secure Bisseck’s allegiance before the Indomitable Lions could sway him.

That summer, however, Bisseck made a pivotal career decision to join Inter Milan rather than a German club. It was a risky choice; many experts suggested he’d develop better in a smaller Bundesliga team where he’d likely become a first-choice defender more rapidly. Yet, Bisseck chose a different route, opting to test himself in Serie A, widely known for its unforgiving defensive challenges. His former coach Christian Wuck, who now manages the German women’s team, was one of few to praise the decision, commending Bisseck’s determination to seek a “higher ceiling” by developing in Italy.

Bisseck’s Gritty Climb in Serie A
Joining Inter Milan has not been an easy journey for Bisseck. Upon his arrival last season, Bisseck saw only nine minutes of play across all competitions in his first three months. Despite this, he remained committed, displaying a positive attitude and consistent work ethic, which gradually opened the door to increased game time. By the season’s end, he had earned nine Serie A starts, accounting for 23.7% of the team’s games, and he played 26.4% of the maximum available league minutes.
Fast forward to this season, and Bisseck has already doubled his presence on the field, securing starting roles in both Serie A and the Champions League. So far, he’s made seven starts—46.7% of Inter’s games this season—logging a total of 655 minutes, or 49% of the available playing time. No longer just a substitute, Bisseck has developed into what can be considered a semi-regular starter, a position he has earned through hard work and adaptability. Head coach Simone Inzaghi has shown increasing faith in him, a trend reflected not just in his playing time but in his statistical improvements as well.
Key Improvements in Bisseck's Performance Metrics
Bisseck’s advancements go well beyond minutes on the pitch. His passes per 90 minutes have surged from 59 last season to 70.5 this term, showing his growth in ball distribution. Defensive metrics highlight his progress even more clearly: successful tackles have increased by 25%, while his clearances have risen from an average of 2.3 per game to 3.5 this season. He has also upped his duel success rate from 54% to 67%. This clear trajectory of growth has translated into heightened market value and heightened reliance on him from the club’s coaching staff.
A Fivefold Rise in Market Value and Growing International Appeal
Inter Milan’s investment in Bisseck has proven to be a financial success as well. At the time of his transfer last summer, Bisseck’s estimated market value stood at €5 million. Now, just over a year later, Transfermarkt has raised that valuation to €25 million, marking an impressive 500% increase. This places him ninth on Inter’s roster in terms of market worth and positions him among Serie A’s top 50 most valuable players.
A significant part of this rise has come from his notable performances in key European clashes, including starting assignments against Manchester City and Arsenal. By helping Inter achieve clean sheets in both of these games, Bisseck’s reputation has spread internationally, and his appeal has not gone unnoticed. English clubs have reportedly taken interest, with scouts from the Premier League closely monitoring his progress. His growing presence on the European stage has bolstered his reputation and market value, adding an element of urgency for Inter to solidify his future at the club.
Inter Milan’s Long-Term Plans for Bisseck
To preempt potential suitors and demonstrate their commitment to Bisseck, Inter is rushing to extend his contract, despite its current duration until 2028. Presently, his annual salary stands at €1.03 million (around €800,000 post-tax), an amount that now seems insufficient given his market stature. Negotiations are underway for a contract renewal that would raise his salary and potentially extend his contract until 2029.
This renewal isn’t just a contract—it’s a signal of Inter’s faith in their young defender. The club appears to view Bisseck as a “lottery ticket” that has paid off handsomely, a long-term investment whose trajectory suggests he could become a defensive mainstay for years to come. While the spotlight initially shone on Havertz that evening, Bisseck left a memorable impression that could lead to a national team call-up and possibly more lucrative offers from Europe’s biggest clubs in the near future.
The night at San Siro may have been about assessing Germany’s current stars, but it ended with an unexpected star on the rise. For Bisseck, a fivefold rise in value over the past year may very well be just the beginning of what could be a stellar career at the highest level of European football.
